What is Asthma?
Asthma is a common lung condition that causes occasional breathing difficulties.
It affects people of all ages and often starts in childhood, although it can also develop for the first time in adults.
There’s currently no cure, but there are simple treatments that can help keep the symptoms under control so it doesn’t have a big impact on your life.
Symptoms
The main symptoms of asthma are:
● Wheezing (a whistling sound when breathing) ● Breathlessness ● A tight chest, which may feel like a band is tightening around it ● Coughing
The symptoms can sometimes get temporarily worse. This is known as an asthma attack.
Several conditions can cause similar symptoms, so it’s important to get a proper diagnosis and correct treatment.
Your GP will usually be able to diagnose asthma by asking about symptoms and carrying out some simple tests.
Treatments
The main types are:
● Reliever inhalers – used when needed to quickly relieve asthma symptoms (salbutamol) ● Preventer inhalers (steroid) – used every day to prevent asthma symptoms occurring ● Some people also need to take tablets.
Causes and triggers
Asthma is caused by swelling (inflammation) of the breathing tubes that carry air in and out of the lungs. This makes the tubes highly sensitive, so they temporarily narrow.
It may occur randomly or after exposure to a trigger. Common asthma triggers include:
● Allergies – to house dust mites, animal fur or pollen, for example ● Smoke, pollution and cold air ● Exercise ● Infections like colds or flu ● Identifying and avoiding your asthma triggers can help you keep your symptoms under control

The letter was received by the Department of Health Australia (DHAN) requesting that AstraZeneca to review the information provided in the letter and to update it to reflect the information it received from the Department of Health.
AstraZeneca was previously asked to provide the letter in an alternative form, but the request was denied.
“This letter is an appropriate response from an Australian government agency and reflects the state of the evidence and, therefore, is the most current, and it has been received by the Department of Health,” said AstraZeneca’s president, John Muir. “We are therefore pleased to see that this letter is received byDHAN.”
About AstraZeneca
AstraZeneca is a British company that produces Asthalin and Ventolin. In 2007, AstraZeneca was one of the first companies in the world to launch a generic version of its product, Asthalin.
AstraZeneca’s patent on Ventolin was valid in the UK in the early 1980s, which led to the development of Asthalin. AstraZeneca was one of the first companies in the world to launch their own generic versions of Ventolin. This was followed by GlaxoSmithKline, which launched their generic version of Ventolin in the mid-1990s. The patent in the UK expired in 1998, so AstraZeneca stopped producing its generic version of Ventolin, which then went on to produce their own generic Asthalin.
AstraZeneca has been around for over 30 years. It produces its own Ventolin, Asthalin and the generic drug Ventolin Accuhaler. AstraZeneca has received a letter from the Department of Health Australia requesting that they update their product information to reflect the information they receive from the Department of Health. The letter is available on the AstraZeneca website,.
AstraZeneca has the opportunity to review and update product information as it relates to the generic version of Ventolin Accuhaler, and, for those patients who may not be suitable for the generic version, the AstraZeneca letter. This is also an appropriate response from AstraZeneca.
